My project is an exhibition showcasing the various aspects of the scientific process, unfolded by personal narratives from neurodegenerative researchers in the WHOL Cellular Imaging Centre (WCIC). It will be hosted in a café for participating researchers and the local community (my target audience). Piece 1 shows one example of a series of poster infographics for each microscope housed in the WCIC. Piece 2 is an interactive exhibition display, designed to mimic the process of formulating a hypothesis and designing an experiment. It features a set of acrylic panels which are designed to mimic fluorescent layers, corresponding to specific proteins or region tags, of microscopy images. Visitors are encouraged to produce their own unique combination of fluorescent layers in order to answer their own localisation hypothesis. In a similar fashion, piece 3 displays the existence of subjectivity in the scientific process through the use of a ‘spot the difference’ game between the same microscopic image analysed by different researchers. Piece 4 shows quotes from researchers about challenges they face in their work in the shape of a spiral. The poster shows the title of the exhibition which is a play on words by describing the research process as an ‘art’.
