I created a website for the Cutaneous Immunology Group. This is a lab based in Guy’s Hospital, St. John’s Institute of Dermatology. Cutaneous, meaning skin, they research inflammatory skin disease; psoriasis and eczema. They study the mechanistic links between environmental, genetic and immune factors as well as biomarkers for these diseases. 3% of the world’s population have psoriasis according to The World Psoriasis Day Consortium. 1 in 10 adults will suffer with eczema from the National Eczema Association. However prevalent these two diseases are, being amongst the most common skin diseases, yet most effective treatments are for severe cases. With the research conducted in this lab treatments can be optimised for those who would most benefit. It would also improve our current understanding of why these disorders arise. In the lab they do this by exploring the dysregulated mechanisms that enable the development of these conditions and investigate biomarkers that can be used to identify potential positive reactions to treatments. I wanted to create a website that encapsulated the lab members and team of collaborators so prospective students could better understand the people behind the research, what questions their research deals with and the importance of their study.
