My product is a magazine cover and article that talks about ALS in relation to the viral ice bucket challenge. The cover and article are for a pop magazine article that focuses on the current and past trends in entertainment, science, technology, etc. and the theme of this issue is the origins of viral trends. My article talks about a protein that can cause aggregates known as TDP-43, which accelerates ALS progression. This is the primary pathology of most ALS cases, and the causes of this aggregation are being researched by Dr Mitchell’s lab. My article also talks about the implications of the challenge and how it helped in ALS research. The audience for my product is 20–45-year-olds, as they would be familiar with the ice bucket challenge and would be more inclined to learn about the science behind ALS. My article is written in simple language to make it engaging and easy for my audience to comprehend the information. My intention behind making a magazine article and focusing on the ice bucket challenge was that the audience would be more likely to learn more about something they are already familiar with.
