Taams Lab - Branding and documentary series.

Student - Reann C'unha

Supervisor - Leonie Taams

My project for Taams Lab addresses the need for developing visual and digital media tools to enhance the lab’s outreach and identity. The lab’s research focuses on pain and inflammation in arthritis, informing novel therapeutic strategies. To visually represent this work, I designed a logo that encapsulates the lab’s mission as well as a 3D print model, drawing inspiration from the biological mechanisms of pain and immune response.

Beyond visual branding, I am producing a four-part documentary series aimed at diverse audiences, including patients, clinicians, early-career researchers, and the public. These short videos communicate the lab’s ongoing research, showcasing how different levels of scientific inquiry—from early-stage experiments to clinical applications—contribute to breakthroughs in arthritis treatment. Each episode tailors its messaging and complexity to its intended audience, ensuring accessibility while maintaining scientific integrity.

This project aligns with the principles of science communication by making complex biomedical research more approachable and fostering public trust in scientific institutions. By integrating visual identity with multimedia storytelling, my work enhances the lab’s ability to engage with key stakeholders and illustrates the collaborative nature of scientific discovery. The initiative underscores the role of communication in translating laboratory research into societal impact, ultimately supporting the lab’s mission to im

prove patient outcomes through innovative arthritis research.
