Sci-Fi Bitez is an immersive and interactive website intended to provide an accessible insight into the endless innovations in science. Through taking an interactive and engagement-based approach, this project aims to captivate the attention of a young science enthused audience (ages 10-16).
This interactive website is designed to communicate the emerging science of 3D brain organoids and their potential in understanding human brain development and neuropsychiatric disorders. Developed in collaboration with the Functional Genomics of Human Brain Development (FGxHBD) research team at King’s College London, the platform aims to make cutting-edge stem cell and genetics research accessible to curious, science-enthusiastic teens.
The website introduces users to cortical organoids—lab-grown 3D models that mimic aspects of the developing human brain—explaining their role in linking genetic variation to abnormal brain development associated with conditions like autism and schizophrenia. By combining dynamic visuals, interactive elements, and an animated explainer video, the site demystifies complex scientific processes and highlights the importance of functional genomics in neurodevelopmental research.
Grounded in a public engagement approach, the website prioritizes accessibility, visual storytelling, and curiosity-driven learning. It empowers young audiences to explore how these ‘mini brains’ help researchers uncover the genetic underpinnings of brain disorders, fostering interest in neuroscience, genomics, and future biomedical innovations.
